Promising three-year-old filly Abbakiss drew plenty of attention with her bold gallop at Awapuni this morning.

Fast work was held on the synthetic track or on the plough amid a heavy frost. A few gallops were affected by a lingering fog.

Abbakiss, trained by Bryce Newman, used the synthetic track and had senior rider Kavish Chowdhoory aboard when working with unraced four-year-old stablemate Oceans (by Ocean Park) over 800m in 51.4, the last 600 in 35.8.

Abbakiss (by Microphone) is heading to the Taupo meeting on Sunday (3yof 1100m) and Chowdhoory is booked for the ride.

Abbakiss chalked up a win and three placings last season before finishing sixth in the Karaka Millions 2YO last January. She narrowly won a Foxton trial last week, and looks ready for a big effort fresh up.

Meanwhile, unraced Vadamos filly Belle Coeur and a Turn Me Loose maiden, two more from the Newman barn, covered 800m, but could only be timed the last 600, which took 37.3.

Sevenayes and unraced three-year-old filly Amiria (by Per Incanto), both trained by Mike Breslin, covered 800m in 51.1, the last 600 in 38.1. Amiria is out of former top race-mare Heni, thus a half-sister to stablemate Kereti (by Darci Brahma).

Sotirio, in at Woodville on Sunday (r75 1400m), worked alone over 800m in 55.1, the last 600 in 39.9, and Newman-trained Velton took 54.7 and 40.1.

French Doll, who won three in succession during the autumn months, gathered speed from the 800m to finish with 600 in 42.8. She has freshened up well.

Blue Jeanie (43 even), Afterthought (43.5) and former northerner I Am Groot (46.1) all did three-quarter pace over 600m. Blue Jeanie and I Am Groot are in the Newman stable.

On the plough, Newman's good sprinting mare Bold Belle skipped over 800m in 52.9, the last 600 in 38.7. The mare won a Foxton trial last week and heads to the open sprint at Woodville on Sunday.

Keepz Occurring, in the maiden hurdle earlier in the day, schooled over four hurdles in the centre, then came out and ran 1000m in 1.7.4, with the final 800m taking 54.4, the last 600 in 39.2.

He worked boldly on Tuesday with stablemate Textbook (r65 1400m), who also went on his own this morning, covering 1000m in 1.10.7 and 54.7, the last 600 in 39.7.

Three-year-old filly Dark Deluxe (by Tivaci) and an Ace High maiden, both trained by Lisa Latta, ran 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 40.2.

Falcrests Belle, trained by Nikki Hurdle, and Rushin Home (Mike Breslin) did similar work, ending with 600m in 41.5. Coney Island clocked 58.1 for 800m, the last 600 in 42 seconds even.
