Crouch and Donnybrook, from the Mike Breslin barn, and Kodiac Bear and Golden Ace, trained by the Gray partnership, all galloped boldly at Awapuni on Thursday morning.

Fast work was held a few metres out from the rail on the course proper, on the plough or on the synthetic track.

Crouch and Donnybrook used the course proper and cruised over 1000m in 1.5.1, with the final 800m taking 48.5, the last 600 in 34.5.

Both horses are likely to race at Trentham on Saturday week, with Crouch aiming for the Wellington Cup a fortnight later. He finished second to Wolfgang in the two-miler last year.

Kodiac Bear and unraced three-year-old Golden Ace (by Ace High) were paired over 800m in 49.6, the last 600 in 34.8. Their stablemate Idyllic went alone in 50.9 and 35.7.

Manzor Blue had senior jockey Jonathan Riddell aboard over 1000m in 1.5.7 and finished with 800m in 50.8, the last 600 in 36.4. She holds a nomination for the Wellington Cup as well.

Wanganui entrant McKhan (r75 2040m) had trainer Ashley Meadows aboard over 1000m in 1.7.9, coming the final 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 36.2. He's in fine fettle.

Platinum Goddess and last-start Boxing Day winner Thrilling matched strides over 1000m in 1.7.3, with the final 800m taking 52.3, the last 600 in 37.4.

Bradman and four-year-old mare Punisher (by Staphanos) covered 1000m in 1.11.1, increasing the tempo as they went to complete the final 800m in 53.9, the last 600 in 37.2.

Wanganui entrants Cremant (3yo 1200m), another Boxing Day winner, and Brian (mdn (1340m) went 800m together in 53.3, the last 600 in 38.2.

Showbastian Coe (r75 1200m) was timed 800m in 53.6, the last 600 in 38 seconds even, and Loose Jewels went alone in a well-held 54.8 and 38.4.

Uncle Arch (r75 2040m) was not chasing the clock over 800m in 58.7, the last 600 in 40.7, while his stablemates Street Appeal (mdn 1340m) and Only The Lonely (r65 1340m) went together in  a quiet 41.3. Ardroe (r75 1200m) ended with 41.3 as well.

Platinum Designs (r75 1200m) was kept to an easy 1200m in 1.25.2, the last 600 in 41.9, and Blue Jeanie (r75 2040m) ended with 43.1.

On the plough, Platinum Warrior (by Contributer) and Buckfast Abbey (by Almanzor) caught the eye with 1000m in 1.7.5, with the final 800m taking 51.6, the last 600 in 37.6. They are unraced three-year-olds trained by Bryce Newman.

Maiden four-year-old Afterthought and unraced three-year-old filly Amiria (Per Incanto-Heni) ended a quiet round and a half with 600m in 44.1. They are trained by Mike Breslin.

On the synthetic track, unraced two-year-old gelding Magna Carta (by Sword Of State) and an Almanzor filly, two more from the Breslin barn, ran 600m in 41.5. Magna Carta is a half-brother to Taupo Cup winner What You Wish For.
