Fast work was against the rail on the course proper after rain overnight.
Heza Monty, in Friday's maiden mile, had trainer Ashley Meadows aboard over 1000m in 1.4.6, the last 600 in 34.9, and has taken great benefit from his two resuming runs, which had plenty of merit in them.
Last-start maiden winner Falcrests Belle (r65 1200m), trained by Nikki Hurdle, and Kana (Didham partnership) were paired over 800m in 49.2, the last 600 in 34.2.
Cry Baby and stablemate Share Power, who will go separate ways over the weekend, ran 800m in 49.1, the last 600 in 34.8. Cry Baby goes to New Plymouth on Saturday, while Share Power heads to Taupo on Sunday.
Otaki runner Pistachio (mdn 1200m) had City Gold Dragon for a partner over 800m, the last 600 in 34.9, and City Gold Dragon finished fourth on debut two weeks ago.
Connello (r75 1400m) and Qacentina (r65 1200m) were locked together over 1000m in a smart 1.3.8, the last 600 in 35.4. Connello has not raced since the NZ Cup meeting early last month.
McKhan (open mile), freshened since racing in the spring, covered 1000m in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 35.4 as well. He won a Foxton trial two weeks ago.
Lemaitre (r65 2200m) and Can Do ran similar times as above when galloping 1000m together in 1.7.2 and 35.3. Can Do, narrowly beaten at Trentham last start, races at Taupo on Sunday (r65 2000m).
Otaki runner My Alibi (r75 2100m) and stablemate Zackery were paired over 1000m, being timed from the 800m in 50.1, the last 600 in 35.9.
Ribella Rose, who will wear blinkers on Friday (mdn 1200m) and Under Orders (mdn 3yo 1400m) ran 1000m in 1.7.9, the last 600 in 36.2, and Hard Too Think (open mile) went alone in 1.8.7 and 36.7.
Manzor Blue and Be Real, rivals in the r75 2100m, gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with 800m in 51.3, the last 600 in 36.4, while Felucca and unraced two-year-old colt Charmstruck (by Anders), second at the Foxton trials, took 52.6 and 36.8.
Lets All Boogie ended with 600m in 36.3, as did Toronto. Sloshed, in at Otaki (mdn 1200m) with the shadow roll removed, took 37.1, and race rival Derrick, twice placed at the trials, clocked 37.2.
He's A Doozy (open mile) had senior rider Jonathan Riddell aboard over 1000m in 1.6.3, the last 600 in 37.4, while Wingman (r75 1400m) and Merroca (mdn 3yo 1400m), unplaced on debut, went together in 1.8.1 and 37.4 as well.
Call A Friend (r75 2100m) and Dapper Dan (mdn mile) matched strides over 1000m in 1.7.9, the last 600 in 37.9, and last-start maiden winner Loose Jewels clocked 1.10.1 and 37.5.
Donnybrook, who will have the blinkers off in Friday's open mile, and stablemate Sevenayes (r75 1400m) ran 800m in 52.3, the last 600 in 37.4, and Albarossa, third when resuming at Trentham three weeks ago, took 52.8 and 37.3.
Silent Is Gold, another who was third when resuming at Trentham, covered 800m in 53.3, the last 600 in 37.5. He will contest the Telegraph Handicap at the same venue on Saturday week.
Unraced two-year-old filly Sweetest Thing (by Hello Youmzain), who won a Foxton trial two weeks ago, and unraced four-year-old Jacobite Rising (by Ocean Park) ran 800m in 55.2, the last 600 in 37.3. They are with Roydon Bergerson.
Otaki acceptor Blue Jeanie (r75 2100m) had apprentice jockey Jim Chung in the saddle over 1000m in 1.10.1, the last 600 in 38 seconds even, while Victortheinflictor (r75 1400m) and recent Foxton trial winner Ardee Boy went 1.11.4 and 38.1.
Platinum Tyche (r75 2100m), a shade disappointing at Trentham last start, and Rithim (r65 2200m) were locked together over 1000m in 1.10.4, the last 600 in 38.9.
Dazz (r65 1200m), who won on debut in April, did 800m in 53.5, the last 600 in 38.1, and this four-year-old has been placed in three trials since returning to work.
Thrilling (r65 2200m) and Starpello (mdn mile) were sent 800m in 53.7, the last 600 in 38.6, and Ima Brazen One, in the open 1400m at Taupo on Sunday, required 54.5 and 38.4.
Hello My Dear, unlucky when resuming at Trentham a few weeks ago, ended with 600m in 38.5, and she starts again on Friday (mdn 3yo 1400m). Her stablemate Kodiac Bear (mdn 1200m) recorded 39 seconds even, and will have a tongue tie added to the gear.
Showbastian Coe left 800m behind in 54.5, the last 600 in 39.4, and Otaki runner Final Chapter (r65 2200m) went 1000m in 1.12 even and 39.6. Pepeha (r65 1200m) did 800m in 56.7 and 40.3.
French Doll ended with a quiet 600m in 43.4; Bradman 43.6; and Casta Shadow (mdn mile) 46.5.
On the plough, Sand Point ended with 43.9, while All In Navy and top filly Intention were kept to 45.4.
