Maiden three-year-old filly Honoka looked on song for Waverley when she galloped boldly at Awapuni on Thursday morning.

Fast work was held on the course proper, on the synthetic track or on the plough.

Honoka used the course proper and, with stablemate Coulthard alongside, certainly drew attention to her chances on Easter Monday with 1000m in 1.4.4, coming the final 800m in 48.1, the last 600 in 35.6.

Honoka finished eighth in the Manawatu Classic (2100m) last start after two maiden placings over a mile at Waverley. She looks hard to beat back in maiden company (2100m) there on Monday.

Coulthard won a maiden mile at Waverley three starts ago and was then beaten narrowly at Wanganui.

He earned a run in the Manawatu Classic last time out as well and was not disgraced, finishing just over four lengths from the winner, Kiwi Skyhawk.

He's A Doozy and Coney Island lost no kudos this morning, covering 1000m in 1.5.3, with the final 800m taking 48.8, the last 600 in 36.3.

The only other two to use the course were Uncle Arch and Jazlene from the Bryce Newman barn, and they were timed 1000m in 1.10, increasing the tempo as they went to finish with 800m in 51.3, the last 600 in 38.6.

On the synthetic track, Wolverine was in brilliant form with a very impressive 800m in 45.4, the last 600 in 34.1.

She won a trial at Awapuni last week and has gone ahead in leaps in bounds, looking poised for a fresh-up win on Easter Monday (r75 1200m).

A top run there could earn her a tilt at the $100,000 weight-for-age Rotorua ITM Stakes (1400m) for fillies and mares on Saturday, May 10.

Her stablemate Reign It In covered 800m in 55.1, the last 600 in 37.4, while unraced two-year-old Popinjay (by Rock 'n' Pop) and an Alamosa gelding, both trained by Mike Breslin, took 53.6 and 39.1.

Donnybrook was kept to 1000m in 1.18.2, the 800m in 59.3 and the last 600 in 43.1.

On the plough, Lincoln Star, in on Monday (r75 2100m), and a Justify two-year-old stablemate ran 800m in 57.8, the last 600 in 41.3, while Shockiff (mdn 2100m) went alone over 1000m in 1.14.3, the last 600 in 42.2.
