Kevin and Stephen Gray-trained sprinter Idyllic took centre stage with a very smart gallop at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.

Omega Boy and Great Escape were just as impressive working together, while McKhan caught the eye as well.

Fast work was on the outside of the new course proper, or on the plough or on the synthetic track, with perfect conditions overhead and underfoot.

The majority of gallops were for horses entered for Trentham.

Idyllic used the course proper and gathered speed from the 1000m to run home the final 800m in 46.3, the last 600 in 34.6.

The six-year-old mare resumes at Trentham on Saturday after a five-week break, but she did win a Foxton trial two weeks ago.

She will be chasing her first victory at Trentham from eight previous starts on the course, which include a second, a third and two fourths.

Omega Boy and Rosie Myers-trained Great Escape were sent 1000m as well, being timed their final 800m in 47.4, the last 600 in 34.7.

McKhan had trainer Ashley Meadows in the saddle over 1000m, with the final 800m taking 48 seconds even, the last 600 in 35.5. He was a costly failure at Hawera two weeks ago, but can make amends.

Ima Brazen One and French Doll were paired over 800m in 48.2, the last 600 in 36.7, while Connello and Lantern Way recorded 48.7 and 36 seconds even.

Platinum Attack, just beaten in the Lightning Handicap at Trentham last start, worked alone over 1000m, coming the final 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 36.3.

Linara and Thursday's Waverley runner Afternoon Siesta were locked together over 1000m, covering the final 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 36.4. Afternoon Siesta (by Shamus Award) is on debut after winning a Foxton trial two weeks ago.

Platinum Designs and Kids Got Gears did nice work together over 800m in 49.6, the last 600 in 36.5, while their stablemates Damiano, in on Thursday, and Rev It Up Rusty posted 49.6 and 36.8.

Sioux Princess and unraced two-year-old filly Bona Sforza (by Written By) left 800m behind in 51.2, the last 600 in 36.8. They are trained by Samantha Finnegan.

Silent Is Gold and Albarossa, both from the Gray stable, ran 800m in 50.6, the last 600 in 37.3, and Albarossa was beaten narrowly when resuming at Trentham two weeks ago.

The Scunner had trainer Ashley Meadows in the saddle over 800m in 50.8, the last 600 in 37.6, while Zackery and Kawatiri recorded 51.1 and 37.8.

On the plough, Waverley runner Shockiff (mdn hwt 2200m) skipped over 1000m in 1.4.3, the last 600 in 36.5, while Where's Ange and The Precursor, both from the Fannin barn, were kept to 1.13.4 and 42.7.

On the synthetic track, Charlotte's Way and unraced three-year-old stable Jacobite Rising (by Ocean Park) ran 800m in 54 even, the last 600 in 39 even. Jacobite Rising was a Foxton trial winner two weeks ago.

Unraced two-year-old gelding Donatello (by Reliable Man) did a quiet round and a half and finished with 600m in 44.8. He is trained by Ashley Meadows.
