The Liquidator is on song to score his first success on Sunday after a very pleasing final trial at Awapuni on Thursday morning.

Fast work on a quiet gallop morning was on the plough (good).

The Liquidator had trainer Leon Mudgway in the saddle when gathering speed from the 1200m mark to complete 1000m in a smart 1.2.7, coming the final 800m in 48.5, the last 600 in 35.9.

The War Decree gelding was unlucky not to pay a dividend on debut at Trentham (1300m) in mid-December when strongly supported in the betting.

However, he made amends somewhat with a strong second at Wanganui (1340m) three weeks ago. He will attempt to go one better in the maiden mile at Otaki on Sunday.

Lily Sutherland takes the ride again, but the task has not been made easy with the outside barrier in a field of 14.

Share Power and Cry Baby, both trained by Deborah Parry, did a quiet round before galloping 800m in 52 seconds even, the last 600 in 38.1.

Up-and-coming sprinter Platinum Attack did a couple of quiet rounds and cruised home the last 600m on the second circuit in 47.3.

He heads north this weekend for the Group 1 weight-for-age BCD Group Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa.

He was far from disgraced in the Telegraph at Trentham and the Railway at Ellerslie, finishing fifth in both races at his last two starts.

Saturday's race will be his first attempt at 1400 metres, and Jonathan Riddell is back on board.
