Share Power and Cry Baby could not have run a better trial for Taranaki on Friday when they galloped at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.
Fast work was held on the plough (good) or on the synthetic track.
On the plough, Share Power and Cry Baby, both trained by Deborah Parry, did a quiet round together before galloping 1000m in 1.2.5, with the final 800m taking 50.1, the last 600 in 37.9.
Share Power tackles the r60 1800m on Friday and, though his form may look moderate on paper, he hasn't had much luck in recent races.
Maiden mare Cry Baby is third-up in a new campaign at New Plymouth and steps up to 2000 metres after two races over a mile.
Last time in, she posted a second, third and fourth over a middle-distance, albeit all of them on the synthetic track at Awapuni.
Unraced four-year-old Wind Talker (by Staphanos) covered 1000m in 1.14.7 and clocked 57 seconds even for the final 800m, the last 600 in 40.4. She won a jump-out at Levin (1200m) last week.
Taranaki acceptor Rithim (mdn 2000m) had stablemate Chelsea Rose for a partner over 1000m in 1.15.4, the last 600 in 42.8, and Ardroe (r75 1200m) went alone in 1.16.9 and 42 seconds even. He was very dominant winning at Wanganui last start.
On the synthetic track, Chance Taken did nice work over 1000m in 1.7.9, quickening as he went to finish with 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 38.6. He is close to winning form.
Unraced three-year-old Afterthought (by So You Think) was not chasing the clock over 800m in 56.8, the last 600 in 40.6. His stablemate Kosta, fourth on debut three weeks ago, posted 55.7 and 40.5. They could both debut at Tauherenikau on Sunday.
Form runner Kereti, heading to Matamata on Saturday, was timed 1000m in 1.13.8, the last 600 in 40.9, and stablemate Pleasing recorded 1.13.6 and 41.2.
Matamata Breeders' Stakes prospect Intention went with stablemate Call A Friend and were kept to 1000m in 1.16.1, the last 600 in 41.8.
Last-start winner Ima Brazen One was not extended at any stage when running 1000m in 1.15.9, the last 600 in 42.1, and Crouch did little more than three-quarter pace over 800m.
