Nine-year-old Semper Magico has plenty more to offer judging by his bold gallop at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.

Fast work during a very quiet gallop session was on the plough or on the synthetic. Foxton trials were scheduled for later in the day.

Semper Magico used the plough and had jumps jockey Portia Mathews aboard over a quiet round before being sent 1000m in 1.4.8, with the final 800m taking 50.2, the last 600 in 36.1.

The Per Incanto gelding resumed on the flat at Otaki last Friday, but it is likely he will be seen over jumps more often this year. He has already had four hurdle races for a win and three minor placings.

Wellington Steeplechase candidate Jesko and stablemate Fourty Eight did two solid rounds with a sprint at the end of each one.

On the second circuit they completed 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 39.2, and Jesko shoots for a Trentham winter double after his last-start success in the Manawatu Steeplechase.

Former southerner Haggle (by Ghibellines) covered 800m in 57.2, coming the last 600 in 40.4. The winner of four races on the flat from the Anderton stable at Wingatui, is now trained by Mark Oulaghan.

Perfect Test (by Time Test), not seen last spring, was given little more than three-quarter pace over 800m, the last 600 in 46.4, and Faustian Bargain, in similar work, clocked 46.7.

On the synthetic track, Crouch was timed 800m in 55.4, the last 600 in 40.4, and his stablemate Intention sprinted 600m in 43.5.

Crouch has not raced since the NZ St Leger (4th), while Intention's last outing saw her finish fifth in the Sires' Produce Stakes at the same autumn carnival at Trentham.
