Town Cryer and Too Sweet are at the top of their game for Trentham on Saturday, judging by their gallop together at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.
Fast work took place four metres out from the rail on the new course proper, restricted to horses racing this Saturday, or on the plough.
Sixteen horses used the course proper, but not all could be timed because of poor light.
Town Cryer (Awapuni Gold Cup) and Too Sweet (Sires' Produce) used the course and were paired over 1000 metres, being timed from the 800m in 47 seconds even, the last 600 in 34.5.
Magnifique, another Gold Cup candidate, ended with 34.7.
Sires' Produce runner Intention and stablemate Ima Brazen One (r75 2200m) gathered speed from the 1000m to run home the final 800m in 48.7, the last 600 in 36.4.
Omega Boy, trained by Peter Didham, and Scandalize (Matthew Eales) did similar work over 1000m, being timed the final 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 36.8. They both head to Trentham.
Coulthard and Rev It Up Rusty, two more for Saturday, were sent 1000m, but could only be timed the last 600m, which they covered in 38.6.
On the plough, Sweettest (by Time Test) went alone over 800m in 52.1, the last 600 in 37.4, and she was unplaced on debut at Waverley last week for trainer Mark Oulaghan.
Her stablemates Basslock and former northerner Sloane Square matched strides over 800m in 52.7, the last 600 in 38.3. Basslock is an unraced five-year-old mare by Shocking.
Super Gold, not seen since the spring, had trainer Nicky Goss aboard over 1200m in 1.12.7, the last 600 in 40.8. Showbastian Coe went 600m in 42.1, and Papa Surf followed straight after with a very easy 46.3.
