Top mare Town Cryer looked on song for the NZ Breeders' Stakes this Saturday when she galloped strongly at Awapuni on Tuesday.
Fast work during a wet session was on the synthetic track or the plough.
Town Cryer used the synthetic track and had her stablemate Vee Vee for a partner over a quiet round before increasing the tempo to run 1000m in 1.9.4, the last 600 in 37 seconds even.
A wide draw did not work in her favour in the Westbury Classic (1400m) at Ellerslie last start, and she has been freshened for two new targets, Saturday's Group 1 followed by the Awapuni Gold Cup at Trentham later in the month.
The mare finished second in both the Rangitoto Classic and the Breeders' Stakes last year, so Ellerslie holds no fears, and Craig Grylls, who rode her in both races, is back aboard this week.
To bring her forward for the race on Saturday, Town Cryer won a Waipukurau trial very easily last week.
The only other gallop timed on the synthetic track this morning was from Reign It In and an Ardrossan three-year-old, two more from the Bergerson stable, who went 800m in 59.8, the last 600 in 41.2.
On the plough, Lisa Latta-trained stablemates Love Janie and Qacentina were paired over 1000m in a solid 1.3.4, the last 600 in 37.1. They are both top prospects at Waverley on Thursday.
Four-year-old mares Sweet Ada (by Adelaide) and Navy Bride (by U S Navy Flag) matched strides over 1000m in 1.7.1, the last 600 in 38.2. They are trained by the Fannin partnership and have not raced since the spring.
Shockiff, who should nail a maiden win shortly, ran 1000m in 1.6.9, the last 600 in 39 seconds even, while Croix de Guerre recorded 1.8.9 and 39.2.
The Scunner, ready to go fresh up at New Plymouth on Saturday, did a quiet round before being sent 1000m in 1.10.3, the last 600 in 39.3, and Lantern Way took 1.14.2 and 39.9.
Kalinya, unplaced when resuming at Otaki, was another to warm up over a lap and then ran 800m in 54.3, the last 600 in 39.3, and Waverley runner Cry Baby (mdn 2200m), in similar work, posted 55.9 and 39.7. Sand Point ended with 39.4.
Shameless Star (mdn 2yo), a beaten favourite on debut at Tauherenikau, had stablemate Lemaitre (r65 1650m) alongside over 1000m in 1.12.7, the last 600 in 40.8.
Pleasing, off to New Plymouth, went alone over the same distance in 1.13.7 and 41.6.
Rithim (mdn 2200m) and Rogue Romance were locked together over 1000m in 1.13.6, the last 600 in 42.8, and Afterthought, unplaced on debut at Wanganui, did 800m in 58.9 and 42.7. Benefactor was kept to little more than three-quarter pace over 800m.
